Hockey Kids
Must Read Hockey Titles for the Little Hockey Fan!

Although, it’s near the middle of August and temperatures in my part of the world are holding steady at 100 degrees, (That weather just screams hockey season, doesn’t it?), I am writing about hockey, and specifically hockey titles that you should check out.

School here has started and that dreaded reading log is back. In between practice and life, getting a book read can be like pulling teeth! Over the years, my son has had a few favorite hockey books at the ready so for a while getting that reading list done was easy peasy. Hockey in a book that we sometimes read on the way to hockey, yes please!

So, to stay cool, I’m looking back through the list of must read hockey titles that were enjoyed. There is something for all the hockey kids, even the littlest hockey fan!

Hockey titles for hockey kids

A mid August weekend kicked off a new season and honestly, there is no better way to beat the heat than at the rink. This year brings a new team with some old friends, a hope to make some new friends along the way and reflection on our hockey journey.

My number 13 has been skating since he was 4 and obsessed with hockey since he can remember. I don’t play but have always loved hockey so maybe some of that has rubbed off on him?

Convinced for the longest time that he was going to be a goalie, no. 13 would suit up in those cheap Franklin pads, setup his rink in the playroom, and work on being a brick wall while foam pucks were shot his way.

Obviously being a hockey family, there have been a fair share of hockey titles in circulation. There was a time when the bedtime ritual what reading Goodnight Hockey over and over. As no. 13’s reading skills improved, hockey titles still kept his interest.

Well, as much as a middle schooler is interested in reading that is. And so, as preparations begin over here for the next several months of rink life, I compiled a list of favorite reads for you and your hockey tots to enjoy.

Here are some must read hockey titles for your hockey tot. Happy reading and may the reading logs be a bit easier this year!!

The Fan Favorite Hockey Title

Our all-time favorite hockey title:

  • Good Night Hockey (Sports Illustrated Kids Bedtime Books)

The Runner Up Hockey Title

A close second favorite in our hockey house:

  • Pucksters First Hockey Game by Lorna Schultz Nicholson

Other Hockey Titles That Made The Cut

Our other favorite hockey titles for even the littlest hockey fan:

These books cover a range of topics and themes, including the rules of the game, hockey heroes, mystery, and humor. They are suitable for children of different ages and reading levels, and can help foster a love of hockey and reading.

For the Hockey Parents

Eventually, we all grow up. So, here are a couple of grown up hockey title recommendations:

  • Hockey, Eh? True Confessions of a Midlife Rink Rat by Meagan Hesham
    • I loved this book, top shelf, and bar down. Meagan was able to put into words the journey of the average hockey parent, which is bananas to say the least. When I hear or say ‘rink rat’ it’s generally in reference to the kiddos but the parents are 100% worthy of the rink rat title. This is a great read for any hockey parent at any stage of their journey.

And in case you just need the basics:

Thanks for reading this list of hockey titles for the hockey fan. Although we have outgrown reading many of these, they are still favorites and I’m happy to pass them along.
