Set Realistic and Specific Goals
Before embarking on a reading challenge, it’s essential to establish realistic and specific goals. Consider your schedule, existing commitments, and reading speed. Assess how many books you can comfortably read within the given time frame of the challenge. Setting achievable goals will keep you motivated and prevent you from feeling overwhelmed. For example, instead of aiming to read a specific number of books, you can set a goal to explore diverse genres, authors, or themes.
Create a Reading List
Once you’ve set your reading challenge goals, it’s time to create a diverse and engaging reading list. You may already have a to-be-read list just waiting for an occasion like this. If not, start by researching books that align with your goals or interests. Explore recommendations from fellow readers or book clubs or seek inspiration from literary award lists. Embrace the opportunity to explore different genres, such as fiction, non-fiction, mystery, or science fiction, and include books from different cultures and perspectives to broaden your understanding of the world. Be sure to leave room for those unexpected gems that you didn’t know you needed!

Develop a Reading Schedule
To stay on track during a reading challenge, it’s important to create a reading schedule. Allocate specific time slots for reading each day or week. Consider your daily routine and identify periods of time that are conducive to reading. Whether it’s early mornings, evenings, or during your lunch break, dedicating consistent reading time will help you maintain momentum. Be flexible and adjust your schedule as needed but strive to make reading a regular part of your routine. When in doubt, always carry a book with you. You never know when you’ll have a few moments to yourself that can be filled with the joy of reading.
Gather Reading Resources
To optimize your reading experience, gather the necessary resources beforehand. Visit your local library, independent bookstores, or online platforms to curate a captivating collection of books that align with your reading challenge goals. Consider diverse formats, such as physical books, e-books, or audiobooks, based on your preferences and availability. Additionally, create a comfortable reading environment with good lighting, a cozy reading spot, and perhaps a favorite blanket or a warm cup of tea to enhance your reading ambiance.

Great tips! Definitely creating a reading schedule is helpful. I read at night before bed and that has increased my reading a lot!
As a humanities student in undergrad and grad school, I had to read multiple books every week. I found it very helpful to break the books down into various types of reading. (Fiction generally reads faster than nonfiction, for example, so that helps with how much time you’ll need to devote.) I went so far as to note in my planner which books I planned to read that day, along with the page numbers. Planning it out really helped. I still do that today when I need to read and retain a lot of content in a short amount of time.
i love reading but lately because my sinuses are affecting my reading
Reading is one of my favorite things. You can have so many great adventures with a good. book. My problem is finding enough time to do it!
I love a good reading challenge! But it can be hard to stick with it as a mom. I rely heavily on audiobooks, but I managed to squeeze in some physical reading in the car rider line each day. 😉 Now that summer is approaching, I need to readjust my reading schedule. Luckily, your tips will help me do just that! Thanks for sharing!
I was an avid reader but life happened and I lost my reading habit. This blog will certainly help me get back on track!
Reading is critical. I remember having designated reading times in school. Need to bring that back as an adult.
